From single-use to earth-friendly bottles

Transitioning to fully recycled plastic (rPET) FIJI Water and POM Wonderful bottles by 2025

As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, we are tackling the single-use plastic challenge head-on. The goal for both our FIJI Water and POM Wonderful brands is a full transition of our PET beverage bottles to 100 percent recycled PET (rPET) by 2025.

rPET is recycled PET plastic that is used to make packaging. Converting postconsumer PET not only reduces waste, it leaves a 60 percent lower carbon footprint than virgin PET, according to NAPCOR.

Downgauging packaging at FIJI Water

In the packaging business, we are constantly striving to reduce the amount of waste created in our bottling process. One method is called source reduction or waste prevention.

FIJI Water recently embarked on a multiyear project to downgauge the amount of plastic we use to produce our water bottles. Downgauging is the process of reducing the thickness of plastic film to reduce packaging weight while maintaining its structural integrity. According to the EPA, downgauging is one of the most impactful ways to prevent waste.

As of mid-2022, we use five to six percent less plastic by weight across our highest volume bottles.
