A world-class wine industry starts in the classroom

A new viticulture program at Cal Poly offers a career path into a vibrant sector of California’s economy

At The Wonderful Company, we’re proud to be part of the wine business, and are doing what we can to ensure our home state continues to be a global leader in production, wine education, and viticulture.

Alongside our partners at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly), Wonderful is supporting the construction of a state-of-the-art facility to train future generations of wine industry experts. Industry icon Jerry Lohr of J. Lohr Vineyards has also lent his support for what will be known as the JUSTIN and J. LOHR Center for Wine and Viticulture.

The 15,600-square-foot winery includes a fermentation hall, bottling room, barrel rooms, and a research lab, all providing students with a learning environment similar to what they’ll experience in the field. Student, faculty, and commercial wines will be produced.

With the partnership of JUSTIN Vineyards & Winery, years of planning will now emerge as the preeminent program for wine and viticulture students in the nation.”

Located on California’s Central Coast, which produces half the state’s grapes, the university’s Wine and Viticulture program is already the largest of its kind in the U.S. Through this new facility, Wonderful looks forward to meeting and partnering with future generations of California winemakers for years to come.
