Running for a cause: Wonderful Citrus hosts 3rd annual Run for Autism

More than $45,000 raised to expand educational programming for children with autism

Now in its third year, the annual Run for Autism hosted by Wonderful Citrus drew record attendance from the Mission, Texas, community this past September. More than 900 attendees participated in a fun run, 5K, or 10K to raise funds to support the expansion of educational programming for children with autism.

The group raised more than $45,000 with the support of The Wonderful Company, the Resnicks and their foundation, Wonderful Citrus employees, and community members. Funds will be distributed across two special education school districts – Sharyland and Mission Consolidated Independent – reaching more than 500 children in the community.

“This event is a beautiful example of how we come together as Wonderful Neighbors to combine our employees’ passion with our company values and partner with local organizations to generate a positive impact in our community,” said Leo Espinosa, senior director and general manager of Juice Operations, Wonderful Neighbor Texas ambassador, and race director.

More than 50 volunteers dedicated their Saturday morning to this year’s race, cheering on attendees at the finish line and distributing Wonderful goods like FIJI Water, POM Wonderful, and Wonderful Pistachios. This year’s race also saw participation from Wonderful Citrus leadership, including President Zak Lafitte, SVP and CFO Jim Lower, SVP of Texas and Mexico Alex Montoya, VP of Agronomy Etienne Rabe, and VP of California Operations Sonya Carrillo.

Supporting Wonderful communities is at the heart of being a Wonderful Neighbor. Through this annual race, Wonderful Citrus continues to unite families, educators, and local businesses, fostering positive community relationships, and increasing support services for children on the autism spectrum.
